Neil Zevnik Georgian Baroque Brooch 10k Gold Amethyst Turquoise Pearls Circa 1840
A Georgian brooch of solid 10k gold in a deeply three-dimensional baroque design, Circa 1840.
The main portion of the brooch is embellished with crimped-bezel-set amethysts, turquoise, garnet, and pearls; below is an etched dangle centered with a collet-set cabochon garnet. On the reverse of the brooch, in an unusual design element, there are double pin-backs to keep the brooch from tilting when worn.
Attached with a fine chain is the original safety stick-pin topped with a seed pearl; this was used to more securely anchor the brooch in the voluminous fabrics of the fashions of the time, and protect it from falling should the pin-backs become open.
