Neil Zevnik Art Deco Sterling Chain & Cut Crystal Lariat Necklace, 1920s
An Art Deco sterling silver chain and cut crystal lariat-style necklace from the 1920s.
This classic and unique design involves a continuous delicate sterling "paper clip" chain with dangling cut-crystal prisms at either end. Wear it draped around the neck, then loop the prisms one over the other in a lariat effect.
The crystal prisms on this necklace have a very unique cut to them; each resembles a four-sided pyramid with a pointed tip. The edges of the four sides are slightly beveled, and the faceting on the tip is diamond-patterned.
In that era, this design was sort of the subtle reverse of the traditional flapper necklace, which also looped around itself, but was very long and very ostentatious. For the more demure and discreet demoiselle, this simple but elegant lariat would definitely have been the necklace of choice.
