Going to the Dogs

New York has long been known for its famed Café Society, and now the city is letting dogs and their owners join in the fun thanks to Boris & Horton, a canine-centric consumer brand and dog-friendly café and community space in the heart of Manhattan’s East Village.

The Happiest Place on Earth

Brainchild of father-and-daughter co-founders Coppy Holzman and Logan Mikhly,

“We wanted to provide New Yorkers with an amazing café and community space to enjoy alongside our four-legged friends,” says Coppy. “Whether you own a dog or just like being around them, Boris & Horton is the place to be. We serve top notch coffee and food and host dog-friendly events ranging from trivia, to burlesque, to adoption events. Our events have featured celebrities including Chevy Chase and The Real Housewives of New York. Our popular trivia contests, emceed by famed Puppy Bowl referee Dan Schachner, have been moved during Covid from the Café to Zoom and are an integral part of their community focused events which we promote weekly on Instagram. We love giving back to our community, so anytime we have an event, a portion of the proceeds go to one of our nonprofit partners. No wonder they call us the happiest place on earth!”

A Tale of Two Doggies

The brand is named after two rescue dogs – Boris, a shaggy-haired, pit bull terrier mix from Puerto Rico, rescued in 2016, and Horton, an adorable, snaggle-toothed, 12-pound mystery breed who hails from Houston, Texas.

The Retail Czar X Boris & Horton collaboration is personal for the leaders of both brands. As Retail Czar President, Tom Ott explains: “Coincidentally, Coppy Holzman was one of my first bosses when I started my retail career back in the early 1990’s. So, when the opportunity for us to team up in a different way presented itself earlier this year, I was very happy to reconnect. We are delighted to showcase Boris & Horton products on Retail Czar, and to introduce our customers to the Boris & Horton dog-friendly café in New York and the great work they are doing in the all-important adoption field.”

According to Coppy: “Our collaboration with Retail Czar also showcases our gift-oriented Boris & Horton products including matching masks and bandanas sets, liver or salmon treats (for those folks who can't make it now to us and want to still indulge their best friends) or the cutest mugs, apparel and toys guaranteed to bring a smile to your face when you need it most”.
